Last week there was a post about the trinity and its importance, using a water illustration. This week, we would like to point out that the "water" analogy doesn't work as it's inaccurate. It also PALES in comparison to the truth, so we wanted to further outline why. This "why" is important because the "why" will come into play when we learn of God, the Holy Spirit, indwelling us. But.......for now.... why is the water illustration incorrect, even though there are three forms of water?
There are 3 reasons, outlined by Apostolic Theology. If you want to go to their website, Click here: Why the Trinity is Not Like Water in Any Way (apostolictheology.org)
The same water cannot be liquid, ice and steam at the same time, all the time.
Liquid, ice and steam cannot mutually indwell one another, but God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit do just that. They are 3 in one.
There's no love lost between liquid, ice, and steam.
As you can see by the first statement, God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit can all be present at the same time yet different, but the same water can't. The same water can only be in one form. And....water is a what, not a who, and cannot love. The Who is the creator of all things; of heaven and earth and all in it. He is worthy of our praise, loves us, and wants only what's best for us.
In conclusion, the Trinity is a divine mystery. It's one in 3 persons and each is indwelling the other. Are you scratching your head yet? No worries if you are....just know that the God of the universe loves you, and we love & care about you, which is why this website exists.
