What is the Trinity and why does it matter?
This post will begin a look at what is commonly called the Trinity and move on to explore God, the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity.
This and other posts will encourage, challenge, and possibly unsettle you, informing you of who God is and what He is about. Many lies and perversions of the truth are running around our society and the world, and it's time to hit them head-on!
So, what is the Trinity and why is that term used? Let's start with the root word, identified by Wikipedia. Wikipedia: Latin: Trinitas, lit. 'triad', from trinus, "threefold". Tri- stands for three.
The Trinity is God, in three distinct, divine persons. God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit. They are 3 distinct persons, yet they are all one. Just as water has 3 forms, water, steam, and ice, each is one thing.....water. However, this water example pales in comparison to how God is. God is 3 distinct divine persons and each is God, at the same time. Again, while water cannot be in 3 forms at the same time, God can be all 3 persons at the same time. God is omnipresent (present everywhere at all times).
Often, the Trinity is not discussed, or God is stated as God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When stated this way, the Trinity may be understood by some but not easily recognized unless you have been informed of this truth. Stating the Trinity as God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit clearly defines and calls out that each distinct person is God.
So, why does this matter? "Who cares?" someone might ask. Knowing the above truth is imperative to understanding God's Holy Spirit and His work here on earth and in us. It's also important in recognizing the depth and breadth of God's reach and love for us. Especially the part about God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, being in us, as mentioned.
Yes, I said IN us! More to come about that so stay tuned or read related blogs about the Holy Spirit!
In His Service,
